German Shorthaired Pointers Steve
has always had animals and dogs in particular (he is the Dr Doolittle of Echuca Village).
He bought Hayleigh (FT Ch Alderbrook
Hayleigh) from Russell Benson in 1984. She gained more than 75 points towards
her Show title but Steve being the hunter that he is, never bothered to get those last few
points. Hayleigh won the 1988
National Field Trial, several Victorian & New South Wales State Field Trial
Championships and numerous All Age & Open Field Trials. She was also successful in
retrieving trials where she won at Novice level and placed at Restricted level. She was a
mad hunting dog even when she had torn the tendon from her shoulder she wanted to keep
hunting. She would work tirelessly all day. This trait is still there in her progeny. And so the German Shorthaired Pointer side of Pointgold began.
